Give A Cash Donation
This is the easiest way to give. No amount is too small!
Donate Your Time And Expertise
This is a tried and true way to give. The benefit? A sense of purpose and satisfaction while helping individuals diagnosed with a developmental disability secure safe, affordable housing in the community.
Fundraise Online
In an effort to raise money to fund our work, Friends has formed a partnership with GoodSearch, an internet search engine, powered by Yahoo, which makes a donation to our organization every time you use it.
In addition to GoodSearch, we are asking that you use GoodShopping through which you can order online from your favorite retailers such as Macy’s Nike, and even websites such as Orbitz or Travelocity. These retailers then make a donation on average of three percent of purchase to Friends’ organizations. Simply visit www.goodsearch.com, select “Friends of SCLARC” and search or shop as you normally would.
Give Appreciated Property
This method allows for a tax deduction for the full fair market value of the property. Normally, you would pay a full tax of 20% on the profit from the sale of property. For instance, if you buy land for $10,000 and sell it for $100,000, you must pay 20% of the $90,000 profit. ($18,000).
After taxes your profit is $82,000. But if you contribute the property to [charity], you get a charitable deduction for the full $100,000. That is, you receive a tax deduction for the full amount of $100,000.
Set Up A Lifetime Charitable Remainder Trust and Establish Friends of SCLARC, Inc. as the Remainder Beneficiary
In this arrangement, you contribute property to a trust and you receive a fixed dollar amount or a fixed percentage of the value of the trust each year. At the end of your life, or at the end of a term up to 20 years, the property remaining goes to Friends of SCLARC. You take an income tax deduction, now, for the value of the interest that eventually goes to Friends of SCLARC. Moreover, you never lose control over how the assets of the trust are invested.
Set up a Charitable Remainder Trust
This is similar to a lifetime Charitable Remainder Trust, but your children or other beneficiaries receive the income stream first. Upon their deaths or after a specified period of time, then the assets would go to Friends of SCLARC. Your estate would receive a present estate tax charitable deduction for the value of the interest that goes to the Friends of SCLARC.
Set Up A Charitable Lead Trust During Your Lifetime
The beneficiary would be Friends of SCLARC. This is the Charitable Remainder Trust in reverse. Friends of SCLARC get the income stream during your life or a fixed period of time, and then the remaining assets go to your children or other beneficiaries.
Donate New or Lightly Used Furniture & HouseHold Items
Oftentimes SCLARC’s adult consumers transitioning into independent living for the first time often lack the materials necessary to live on their own. You can help them achieve their goal of independence by donating new or very lightly used household items.
