South Central Los Angeles Regional Center (SCLARC) hosted the Grand Opening of its new headquarters--Legacy Plaza--on Saturday, November 14, 2015.  This momentous occasion featured a ribbon cutting and awards ceremony as well as a showcase detailing the work of SCLARC’s service provider partners and consumers. The showcase allowed Grand Opening participants to understand the benefit of the agency’s programming and resource development to regional center consumers and families.

SCLARC is one of 21 private, non-profit centers contracting with the State of California, specifically with the Department of Developmental Services, to provide diagnosis, evaluation, case management and life-long planning to individuals who are developmentally disabled. Currently, the agency serves approximately 13,500 individuals who have been diagnosed with a developmental disability. A developmental disability is a condition that originates before an individual reaches the age of 18, continues, or is expected to continue, indefinitely, and constitutes a substantial disability for that individual. Persons who have been diagnosed as having intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and autism may be eligible to receive SCLARC services.

Legacy Plaza, the first major office development constructed in the Historic West Adams  corridor in four decades, is now home to the regional center’s 300 employees and consultants as well as thousands of its consumers, families and vendors. SCLARC’s Board of Directors and Leadership Team have made a commitment to inspire economic development in this area as well as provide local organizations with access to state of the art meeting rooms and ample parking for weekend community events.

The much anticipated Legacy Plaza Grand Opening was attended by a hosts of SCLARC’s political representatives including Congresswoman Maxine Waters (43rd District), Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas (2nd District), 9th  District Councilman Curren Price, 8th District Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson, as well as more than 350 staff members, stakeholders and community partners.
